Fonster Launches Commercial Maintenance Portal, Giving Cape Town Businesses a Single Point of Contact for All Property Repairs
Fonster has launched a dedicated commercial maintenance division and online business portal, giving offices, body corporates, retail chains, and property managers across the Western Cape a single managed service for all their property maintenance needs — replacing the patchwork of individual contractors with one company, one system, and full accountability from first report to completed job.
The platform — available at portal.fonster.co.za — allows business clients to log maintenance tickets, track contractor progress in real time, and maintain a complete digital job history across all their sites. Every ticket receives a unique FST reference number, and Fonster manages contractor assignment, scheduling, and job verification so business owners and facilities managers never have to chase a contractor again.
“Every business owner I spoke to described the same problem,” says Wouter Olwagen, founder of Fonster. “They’re not managing one contractor — they’re managing eight. Different numbers for the electrician, plumber, cleaning company, pest control, AC technician. When something breaks, they spend an hour making calls before anyone even arrives. We’ve built the system that makes all of that go away.”
The Problem Fonster Business Solves
Commercial property maintenance in South Africa is largely unstructured. Most businesses rely on a mix of informal referrals, WhatsApp groups, and contractor numbers saved in someone’s phone. When the person who “knows the electrician” is on leave, jobs get delayed. When a contractor doesn’t pitch, there’s no one to hold accountable. And when an auditor asks for a maintenance record, there isn’t one.
For body corporates and property managers, the stakes are higher still. Residents and tenants expect prompt repairs. Insurers require documented maintenance histories. And trustees are legally obligated to maintain common property — yet have no reliable system to track whether jobs were actually completed.
“Businesses don’t worry about price first — they worry about being stuck with unfinished work,” says Olwagen. “A burst pipe in a staff bathroom, cockroaches in a restaurant kitchen, an AC unit down in the middle of a Cape Town summer — these aren’t minor inconveniences. They stop the business from operating. The problem isn’t finding a contractor; it’s knowing the job will actually get done.”
How It Works: One Report, Fully Managed
The Fonster Business Portal is designed around a simple principle: business clients report a problem, and Fonster handles everything from that point forward.
- Register your business — create a free account at portal.fonster.co.za, add your company details and site addresses. Accounts are reviewed and approved within 24 hours.
- Report a maintenance issue — describe the problem, select the trade (electrical, plumbing, cleaning, pest control, etc.), set the urgency level (Normal, High, or Emergency), and confirm the site address. A unique FST reference number is issued immediately.
- Fonster assigns, tracks, and closes — a vetted contractor is assigned within hours. Fonster confirms attendance, monitors job progress, and verifies completion before the ticket is closed. Clients watch it unfold from their live dashboard — without a single phone call.
If a contractor does not arrive, the job is reassigned. If work is incomplete, they are sent back. If additional repairs are identified on site, Fonster coordinates approval with the client before proceeding. The client remains in control without having to manage the process themselves.
Built for Every Business Type
The commercial portal is designed to serve a wide range of business types, each with different maintenance rhythms and accountability requirements:
For offices and professional firms, speed of response is critical — a broken air conditioner or faulty lighting directly affects staff productivity. For retail and hospitality businesses, recurring multi-site maintenance requires a system that scales without adding administrative overhead. For body corporates and property managers, the platform’s full job history, reference numbers, and completion verification provide exactly the documentation that trustees, auditors, and insurers require.
Fonster has published dedicated service pages for each segment: office maintenance in Cape Town, body corporate maintenance, and retail and multi-site maintenance.
30+ Trade Categories, One Submission System
The commercial portal covers the same 30+ trade categories available on the residential platform, including electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, cleaning, pest control, security systems, solar, gas installations, roofing, waterproofing, pressure cleaning, locksmith, and general maintenance. All trades are submitted through the same ticketing system, tracked with the same reference number format, and held to the same completion standard.
“The goal is to be the company a facilities manager or property trustee calls for everything,” says Olwagen. “Once they’re in the system, they don’t need to build a contractor network from scratch. We already have that network. We just put it to work for them.”
No Contracts. No Setup Fee.
Fonster Business operates on a no-contract, pay-per-job basis. There are no retainer fees, no minimum commitments, and no setup costs. Businesses can use the portal for a single emergency job or as an ongoing managed maintenance service — the system works either way.
“We made this decision deliberately,” says Olwagen. “Locking businesses into contracts creates the wrong incentives. We want clients to keep using Fonster because the service is good — not because they signed something. The only way that works is if we perform on every job.”
