Why an Annual Service Is Not Optional
Almost every aircon manufacturer requires a documented annual service to keep the warranty valid. Skip it, and a compressor failure in year four becomes your bill rather than theirs. That single fact is why our Strand aircon team treats servicing as the most important aircon job we do in Strand, not an upsell.
What a Proper Service Includes
Washing the filters and calling it done is not a service. We clean the indoor and outdoor coils, the fan motors and the covers, wash the filters, check the fan blades for damage, flush the condensate drains, read the refrigerant pressures and the indoor temperatures, test every electrical connection, and check the refrigerant piping for oil spots — the first visible sign of a leak, which is why a service often catches a gas problem before you notice the cooling has dropped off. It is worked off a printed job card, not from memory, and the card records the job against your unit’s model and serial number. That card plus your proof of purchase is exactly what a manufacturer asks for when a warranty claim is made. A standard midwall split is R580, whatever its size from 9,000 to 36,000 BTU. Several units at one property cost less each — R500 each from three units, R480 from six — because there is only one call-out to cover.
It Pays For Itself in Running Cost
A condenser coil packed with dust and Boland pollen makes the compressor work harder for the same cooling, which shows up directly on your electricity bill. A blocked condensate drain is also the most common cause of an aircon dripping water down an interior wall — a service is considerably cheaper than the plastering that follows. The best time to book is early spring, before the first hot week, when everybody calls at once.
