Burning Smell is an Emergency
A burning smell from a plug or socket indicates dangerous overheating that can start an electrical fire within minutes. The smell comes from melting plastic insulation, burning connections, or carbonizing wiring. You must switch off power to that circuit immediately at the DB board and call us for emergency assistance. Never ignore this smell or try to fix it yourself.
What Causes Plugs to Burn
Plugs overheat and burn due to loose connections creating resistance and heat, overloading the socket with too much current draw, damaged or corroded contacts, poor quality plugs or sockets, moisture in the electrical system, or using multi-adapters that exceed socket capacity. Over time, heat damage makes the problem worse as connections loosen further and resistance increases.
Our Emergency Response
We arrive immediately and assess the damage to the plug and wiring, test the circuit for safety, check for fire damage in the wall cavity, identify what caused the overheating, replace the damaged socket and any burnt wiring, verify the circuit breaker operated correctly, and inspect other plugs on the same circuit. We ensure there is no ongoing fire risk before restoring power.
Preventing Future Incidents
We check the total load on that circuit and redistribute if necessary, install higher-rated sockets if needed, replace any poor-quality fittings, ensure proper ventilation around plugs, verify earthing is effective, and inspect your entire DB board for similar issues.
