Common Causes of Wall Damage
Walls develop holes and damage from accidental impacts like furniture or door handles, removed wall-mounted items leaving holes, plumbing or electrical work creating access holes, children's activities and accidents, moving furniture damaging corners, structural cracks from foundation settling, water damage from leaks creating soft spots, termite damage weakening plaster, or simply age-related deterioration. Even small holes and cracks make your home look uncared for and will worsen over time if not repaired properly.
Why Proper Wall Repair Matters
DIY wall repairs often look obvious because amateurs struggle to match textures, do not prepare surfaces correctly, use wrong materials for the wall type, create edges that show through paint, and do not prime properly before painting. Professional repairs are invisible because our Strand handyman team understand different wall constructions including solid plaster, drywall, brick, and block walls, use correct patching compounds and techniques, feather edges seamlessly, match existing wall textures, and prepare surfaces for perfect paint adhesion. The repair should disappear completely.
Our Wall Repair Process
We assess the damage extent and cause, remove loose or damaged material around the hole, prepare the surface for patching, fill holes with appropriate compounds in layers for large damage, reinforce with mesh or backing for structural integrity, sand smooth and level with existing wall, apply texture matching to blend seamlessly, prime the repair area, and apply finish coats for invisible repairs. For large holes, we may install drywall patches. We can also paint the repaired area or entire wall for perfect colour matching. Most small to medium repairs take 2-4 hours including drying time.
Addressing Underlying Problems
If wall damage is from water leaks, we identify and advise on plumbing repairs before patching. If cracks are structural, we assess whether professional structural engineers are needed. If damage is from termites, we recommend pest control before repairs. We do not just patch over problems - we ensure lasting repairs by addressing causes. We also advise on preventing future damage like installing door stops, corner guards, or repositioning furniture.
