Common Intercom Problems
Intercom systems fail due to power supply issues, loose or corroded wiring connections, faulty handsets or stations, damaged outdoor units from weather, failed gate release mechanisms, interference from other devices, outdated equipment needing replacement, or incorrect settings after load shedding. Some problems are simple wiring issues while others need component replacement.
Gate Release vs Communication
Sometimes the intercom audio works but the gate release button does not activate the gate. This is usually a wiring problem or failed relay at the gate motor. Other times you can release the gate but cannot hear visitors. These different symptoms help our experienced Strand security team diagnose the problem faster. Note exactly what works and what does not when calling.
Our Intercom Repair Service
We test the power supply and backup battery, inspect and repair all wiring connections, test communication between units, repair or replace faulty handsets, clean and weatherproof outdoor units, test and repair gate release circuits, eliminate interference sources, adjust settings and programming, and upgrade old systems if parts are no longer available. Most intercom problems are fixable same-day.
Upgrading to Modern Systems
If your intercom is very old, replacement may be more economical than ongoing repairs. Modern systems offer video capability, smartphone integration, multiple user stations, better range, and weatherproof outdoor units. We provide honest advice on repair versus replacement and competitive pricing on quality intercom systems. All installations are professionally wired and tested across the Strand area.
