What the Weather Does to Exterior Paint
Exterior walls take a beating in the Western Cape — UV bleaches the colour, summer heat and winter cold make plaster expand and contract until hairline cracks open up, and damp drives paint to chalk, blister and flake. Once the paint film breaks down, water reaches the plaster behind it, and that is when you start getting damp patches, rising salts, and crumbling render. A timely repaint is as much about protecting the building as it is about how it looks.
Preparation Is Where the Job Is Won
A lasting exterior repaint depends almost entirely on preparation. Our Panorama painting team pressure-wash the walls to remove dirt, chalk and loose paint, scrape and sand back flaking areas to a sound edge, and treat any mould or algae. Cracks are raked out and filled, bare patches are primed, and a stabilising or plaster primer is applied where the surface is porous or powdery. We mask and protect windows, paving and plants before a brush touches the wall. Two coats of quality exterior PVA or a textured weatherproof coating then give an even, durable finish.
The Whole Exterior, Not Just the Walls
A proper exterior job covers more than the main walls. We repaint boundary and garden walls, eaves and fascia boards, window and door frames, gutters and downpipes, garage doors, and steel railings or burglar bars — each with the right primer and paint for the surface. Doing it all in one project means a consistent finish and one set-up cost, rather than calling someone back in a year for the bits that were skipped.
Timing, Mess and Cost
Exterior painting is best done in the drier months so coats cure properly and rain does not wash off fresh paint. We work clean — sheeting down, protecting surfaces, and clearing up daily — so the disruption to your home is minimal. A full exterior repaint in Panorama typically ranges from around R8,000 for a small home up to R25,000 or more for a large house with extensive prep or multiple wall textures.
