Floor tiles lift due to inadequate surface preparation before installation, wrong adhesive used for tile type or location, insufficient adhesive coverage leaving voids beneath tiles, substrate movement from structural settlement or expansion, moisture beneath tiles causing adhesive failure, underfloor heating expanding tiles beyond their joints, tiles installed over incorrect substrate materials, or simply poor workmanship during original installation. Tiles need solid continuous adhesive contact with a stable prepared substrate to remain bonded. The Progression of Tile Lifting
Tile lifting typically starts with one or two tiles developing a hollow sound when walked on. This indicates adhesive has failed beneath. Over time, more tiles lift as movement transfers stress to adjacent tiles. Eventually tiles crack from walking on them while loose, sharp edges become trip hazards, and lifted tiles can shatter suddenly when weight is applied. Water gets beneath lifted tiles causing further adhesive failure and mould growth. The problem spreads progressively - it never improves on its own and requires proper repair before the entire floor fails.

If original tiles cannot be salvaged, we match replacements as closely as possible. Most tile lifting repairs take 2-3 days including curing time.
